Earlier this summer I had the opportunity to rescue & take care of 2 baby raccoons. They were abandoned by their mother in a hollowed out Beach Nut tree which was about 30 feet away from my barn. After noticing constant screaming coming from the tree, I pinpointed where they were. So I cut a hole in the base, pulled the babies out and put them inside an animal carrier.
I transported them to a nearby specialist who cares for wildlife and was given the proper food and directions to care for them. I had the baby raccoons for about 2 weeks before they needed to be set free in the wild. By the time of their release, they were certainly able to fend on their own. Needless to say, the experience allowed me to capture some really unique pictures of the little guys.
